« Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… » est le premier album su membre du Wu-Tang Clan Raekwon, sorti sur les labels Loud Records et RCA Records. L’album est communément appelé « The Purple Tape » car le plastique de la cassette d’origine était entièrement violet afin de se différencier des autres K7 hip-hop vendues à la sauvette, à la façon des trafiquants de drogue.
L’album présente des apparitions de tous les membre du Wu-Tang Clan (RZA, GZA/Genius, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Ol’ Dirty Bastard). Il présente également les premières apparitions des affiliés de la Wu Fam comme Cappadonna, Blue Raspberry, Masta Killa, 62nd Assassin ou encore Golden Arms. On note également la premère apparition d’un non affilé au Wu-Tang, en la personne de Nas.
« Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… » est un pionnier du sous-genre mafia rap, avec ses allusions à la mafia américaine et au crime organisé.
