Ces initiatives proposent des ateliers d’écriture, de beatmaking et de freestyle, permettant aux détenus — souvent jeunes et issus de minorités — de canaliser leur vécu à travers la création. Ces programmes soulignent la valeur thérapeutique et éducative du rap dans les contextes carcéraux.
Kendrick Lamar livre « To Pimp a Butterfly », œuvre monumentale aux influences jazz, funk et gospel, qui redéfinit le rapport entre rap et art engagé. Future inonde le marché de projets sombres et nihilistes. Deux visions du monde coexistent : l’élévation et la descente aux enfers.
